Researcher Makes Poor Man's Smartboard Using $40 Wii Remote

My friend Robert just sent me a link to this awesome demonstration of how a researcher hacked a $40 Nintendo Wii Remote to make a smartboard (among other things) from TED. I have a break next week and can't wait to figure out how to do this myself.

A classmate of mine actually made one of these a few months ago and showed it to us. It's neat technology, but not quite good enough to be useful on a day-to-day basis. I think there's a major novelty factor at work.

The math teacher next door to me did this same thing. Although it doesn't work as well as he'd like, I think the student's learned a lot from the experiment.

Paul, it may indeed be a bit of a gimmick, but there's nothing wrong with using one once and a while.

Mrs. H: What sort of things did your neighbor do with it? I'm wondering about the real applications of this besides the cool visual.
