TEachers were spending less and more conscious of their spending even if they had a school budget. But teachers in Singapore get paied pretty well but we only get about 4-6 weeks of vacations spead out over the course of the year. I haven&amp;#39;t even started my first year of teaching but I&amp;#39;ve already done all of those things in addition to being a substitute teacher. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I think teachers do this because they love what they do too much to leave it and get a job that pays enough. We do get a decent pay (livable), but I wouldn&amp;#39;t like to be running a single income household on it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I used to teach ballet on Saturdays, but I started that long before I was teaching. I have gone from working 50 hours a week to nearly 60.  Just to make ends meet.  &lt;br /&gt;  In my opinion, we aren&amp;#39;t going to get higher pay until the job becomes difficult to get-- until standards are higher.
