Last year, in my first year, I had students write letters about themselves to me, but, while many were entertaining, informative, and even touching, the majority were fairly canned. True, the information was valuable, but it wasn&amp;#39;t really capturing their true voice and interests. When the second half of the year comes around this time, I think I may run with this idea and asks students to write the same length and quality about any topic that interests them in whatever format works, so long as they address why it interests them. Not only might this net greater enthusiasm for the topics, I think these might even be more memorable for me, something that will make it continually unlikely that I will forget a student.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3685403469183555837/5541627481185304431/comments/default/3739750900646289456'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3685403469183555837/5541627481185304431/comments/default/3739750900646289456'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.teachforever.com/2009/09/chivalry-may-be-dead-but-literacy-aint.html?showComment=1252639938299#c3739750900646289456' title=''/><author><name>coachmjs</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='16' height='16' src='http://img1.blogblog.com/img/blank.gif'/></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://www.teachforever.com/2009/09/chivalry-may-be-dead-but-literacy-aint.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3685403469183555837.post-5541627481185304431' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/3685403469183555837/posts/default/5541627481185304431' type='text/html'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.itemClass' value='pid-989534490'/></entry></feed>
